Archbishop of Canterbury
will be the Appeal's Ecclesiastical President.
The Appeal Committee have announced
that the Archbishop of Canterbury will be the Appeal's Ecclesiastical
President.
The Most Reverend and Right Honourable
Dr Rowan Williams was Bishop of Monmouth prior to being
translated to Canterbury. The Choir of St Woolos Cathedral
sang at his enthronement as Archbishop of Canterbury.
The Appeal's Patrons have also
been named. They are the Mayor of Newport, who has named
the appeal as one of his two charities; The Right Reverend
Dominic Walker OGS, Bishop of Monmouth; Her Majesty's Lord
Lieutenant of Gwent, Mr Simon Boyle; and the Newport author
Leslie Thomas.
Welcoming the appointments the
Dean said,"Archbishop Rowan is an extremely busy person
so we are especially honoured that he has agreed to be our
President. I am also very grateful for the support and encouragement
we have received from Newport's mayors, HM Lord Lieutenant
and our own Bishop. It is good to have Leslie Thomas representing
the world of the arts"
