St Woolos Cathedral
to mark 25th Anniversary of the ending of the Falkland Islands
Conflict
The Twenty Fifth Anniversary of
the ending of the Falkland Islands Conflict will be marked
by a Service of Thanksgiving at St Woolos Cathedral, Newport
on Sunday, June 17th at 18.30hrs.
In the presence of the Civic Heads
of Gwent, a map of the Falkland Islands showing the deployment
of troops on the island will be paraded to the Cathedral's
High Altar by a serving TA soldier from the Newport-based
104 Regiment Royal Artillery.
The first lesson will be read by
Mrs. Margaret Seymour, widow of the late Captain Bruce Seymour
who was the Commander of RFA Resource during the Falkland
Conflict. The second lesson will be read by the Army's Senior
Chaplain in Wales Revd. David Moss CF.
The address at the service will
be given by Major General The Reverend Morgan Llewellyn
who is a former General Officer Commanding the army in Wales
Wales is closely linked with the
greatest tragedy of the Falklands Conflict, for at Fitzroy,
to the southwest of Port Stanley, the bombing of RFA
Sir Galahad and RFA Sir Tristram left 54 men
dead and 46 injured, many of them Welsh Guardsmen.
Minor Canon, the Revd Mark Soady
CF(V), who is organising the service said, "It is important
that we mark with thanksgiving the ending of this conflict
which took so many Welsh lives".
