Three Services a day take place at the Cathedral.
Mirroring the praise that goes on in heaven, this daily
round of worship of God and prayers for the world is key
to the life of the Cathedral
10am Cathedral Welcomers
come on duty
Volunteers from across the old county of Gwent
act as Welcomers to the visitors we receive from all over
the world. Some come as Tourists others as Pilgrims, but
all find a welcome.
10.15 School Visit commences
We welcome just under 2000 school pupils a year
to Cathedral. Schools days allow Key Stage 2 pupils to
learn about their heritage and about the Christian faith.
We also have an annual day for 6th Formers when topical
ethical issues are discussed.
12noon Cathedral Clergy
take Communion out to the sick of the Parish
2pm The Dean chairs a meeting
of key personnel to plan a Special Service
In addition to the usual round of worship the
Cathedral plays host to a number of special services,
which need to be planned. Services in 2006 included: Holocaust
Memorial Day, Newport Civic Service, 150th Anniversary
of Mission to Seafarers, HM 80th Birthday, The St Helena
Diocesan Festival, A service for those affected by road
traffic accidents. In rotation we host the Order of John
Wales Priory Service and a service for judges and all
involved in the judiciary across South Wales. .
5pm Cathedral Boys Choir
arrive for rehearsal.
Two services on a Sunday and the evening services
on Monday, Wednesday and Friday in term time are sung
by a voluntary choir drawn from across a variety of schools
in South East Wales.
7pm Choral Evensong
8pm Cathedral Lecture
Each Advent, Lent and Petertide the Cathedral
organises a series of Lectures. Recent Lecture series
have included: Politicians on their faith, Places of Pilgrimage,
The Rule of Life, Discipleship and Finding Faith in Films.
9.15pm The Cathedral is
closed to the public
